To get the letter, character, sign or symbol DEL : ( Delete ) on computers with Windows operating system: 1) Press the Alt key on your keyboard, and do not let go. 2) While keep press Alt, on your keyboard type the number 127, which is the number of the letter or symbol DEL in ASCII table.
In the 7-bit ASCII character set, ASCII code 127 is represented by the control character ␡ also known as the delete.
Standard ASCII codes range from 0 to 127 in Decimal or 00 to 7F in Hexadecimal, they are mainly used for representing characters, such as characters a to z and number 0 to 9, these are called printable characters, note that code 0 to 31 (Decimal) in Standard ASCII are not printable, they are assigned for
In its original form it defined 128 characters (0-127, or 0000000-1111111 in binary) including some control characters such as end of transmission. Various extended versions include non-English characters, but anything above character 127 should be considered unreliable unless the encoding scheme is clearly defined.
The character with code 32 is a special case. This one represents the blank space character which is, of course, invisible by its nature, but is nevertheless regarded as a printable character since it moves the cursor one space to the right, leaving a blank space behind.
The delete control character (also called DEL or rubout) is the last character in the ASCII repertoire, with the code 127. It is supposed to do nothing and was designed to erase incorrect characters on paper tape. It is denoted as ^? in caret notation and is U+007F in Unicode.
ASCII is an 8-bit code. That is, it uses eight bits to represent a letter or a punctuation mark. Eight bits are called a byte. A binary code with eight digits, such as 1101 10112, can be stored in one byte of computer memory. The word CAT in a word processor becomes 0100 00112, 0100 00012, and 0101 01002.
