Unfortunately, grep doesnt work on compressed files. To overcome this, people usually advise to first uncompress the file(s), and then grep your text, after that finally re-compress your file(s) You dont need to uncompress them in the first place. You can use zgrep on compressed or gzipped files.
To split an existing Zip file into smaller pieces Open the Zip file. Open the Tools tab. Click the Split Size dropdown button and select the appropriate size for each of the parts of the split Zip file. Now click Split Zip File (to the left of Split Size).
Right-click on the file or folder. Select Compressed (zipped) folder. To place multiple files into a zip folder, select all of the files while hitting the Ctrl button. Then, right-click on one of the files, move your cursor over the Send to option and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
Grep is a Linux command-line tool that allows users to search files for a specified textual pattern. When grep finds a match, it prints lines containing that pattern to the terminal. By default, the grep command outputs entire lines that contain the match.
To unzip a single file or folder, open the zipped folder, then drag the file or folder from the zipped folder to a new location. To unzip all the contents of the zipped folder, press and hold (or right-click) the folder, select Extract All, and then follow the instructions.
Zipgrep searches for text strings inside the files contained in the archive, not the filenames that zip archive contains. Note that the command syntax is:search pattern + archivename + optional list of filenames to search.
To grep a compressed archive you should use the compressed archive utilities built to work with that type of archive format. For zip archives: zipgrep --help usage: zipgrep [egrepoptions] pattern zipfile [members] Uses unzip and egrep to search the zip members for a string or pattern.
