One theory suggests that if the eggs are taken as a symbol of fertility, their hollowness foreshadows how none of the children in Victory are real but simply programmed simulations, but this feels like a too-nuanced explanation for a film that far too often resorts to bluntness.
Its not clear what purpose food serves in the simulation other than to play at normalcy but, one morning, Alice is shocked to discover that the eggs she cracks are empty. The shells with no real substance arent just a strange, unsettling image, but a hint at Dont Worry Darlings deeper themes and twist ending.
What was that rumbling? When Alice is making Jack breakfast, and later when shes shopping with her gal pals, the world around them shudders violently, rattling glass and nerves. Peg (a crackerjack Kate Berlant) speculates that the rumblings come from underground laboratories, where Project Victory is building weapons.
He and the other men of Victory cant tell their wives a thing about those strange noises in the distance, or the bizarre earthquakes that rattle the neighborhood at random intervals. The audience is meant to believe Jack and his cohort are working on something reminiscent of the Manhattan Project.
(Its a metaphor, you see.) The tremors are meant to suggest that whatever Victory is doing out in the desert is dangerous; the women speculate they might be building futuristic weapons.
Eventually, the film reveals that Victory is a simulation, and that Jack is holding Alice there without her consent. In fact, Alice hasnt a clue about the Victory Projects existence or intentions. While in the simulation, she cant remember anything except the backstory Frank fabricated for the couple.
[Spoiler Warning] At a dinner party, Frank claims that he and Alice slept together. Its the only indication of such an encounter during the film, and everyoneincluding Aliceseems shocked at the accusation. But she also doesnt deny it.
Without witnessing the apparent plane crash, Alice might never have made such a breakthrough. This would mean that she would not have been able to become free of the Victory Project had she not seen the plane. For this reason, the plane in Dont Worry Darling can be seen as a symbol of Alices escape.
