1969 marked the introduction of the VG scientific Eska to our first XPS system in the following 15 years we have created any 50 models of XPS and other surface analysis instruments - Marcus milestone who were delighted to have the opportunity to talk about very first XPS customer and professor Jim Carson from University of Surrey we wanted to find out why XPS was an important technique in those early days what types of problems to solve and how a technology has evolved to meet the needs of researchers working in material science now itamp;#39;s great to be here helping to celebrate the anniversary 50th anniversary of the delivery of the first XPS instrument I was one of the early users of this technique currently Iamp;#39;m an emeritus professor retired of material science here at the University of Surrey but I established the XPS group here in 1970 when I joined from the electricity labs endeavour surface analysis was really impossible when I became interested in it because
