The most famous moment in Oedipus Rex is also the most disgusting: Itamp;#39;s the moment when Oedipus gouges out his own eyes. But thatamp;#39;s not the only example of sight and blindness in this play. In Sophoclesamp;#39;s world, eyes are everywhere. Thatamp;#39;s what makes them a motif! Funny, isnamp;#39;t it? Oedipus is a guy whoamp;#39;s famous for his clear-sightedness and his speedy comprehension. But when it comes to the prophecyand his twisted relationship with his mother and fatherhe just canamp;#39;t quite see the truth. Heamp;#39;s figuratively blind to it through most of the play, and then, when he finally accepts the truth, Oedipus has to physically blind himself because the truth is too painful to look at. On the other hand, from the moment we meet the prophet Tiresias in Scene I, we can tell that this character is a seer. Not in the literal sense, of courseTiresias is completely blind. But figuratively, Tiresias expresses the most clear-sightedness of anyon

From John Steinbeck, Quincy Jones, Sondheim Bernstein, Nabokov, and Chuck whats up doc Jones to modern day artists, architects and musicians - frankly anyone with a penchant for quality and the need of a pencil!
Among these were animators Chuck Jones and Don Bluth, authors John Steinbeck and E.B. White, composers Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, John Williams, Stephen Sondheim, Nelson Riddle, and Quincy Jones, playwrights Eugene ONeill, and Arthur Laurents, the filmmaker Todd Field, and the poet Archibald MacLeish.
Ideal for writing, the 602 has a firm lead thats a little smoother and darker than that of a typical writing pencil. Its a versatile pencil whose lead is similar to a B or HB. The hardest Blackwing pencil is the Natural, with extra-firm lead.
Every pencil will smudge, and softer leads will smudge more than harder leads. The Blackwing is actually very respectable in this department. Even though its the equivalent of a 4B, I find it doesnt blunt too quickly. A lot of that will depend on your style of drawing and the paper you use.
ing to his son, John Steinbecks ritual was to begin every writing session by sharpening 24 Blackwing pencils and placing them in a pot. He would write with one until it began to dull, then place it in an identical empty pot and take another until he had worked through all 24.
Blackwing pencils are prized for their high-quality graphite that rarely breaks, incense-cedar wood that sharpens easily, and distinctive flat ferrule and rectangular eraser.
Steinbeck kept track of things while writing East of Eden, and by his account, the novel took: 11 years of mental gestation. One year of uninterrupted writing. 25 dozen pencils.
In the case of the original Blackwing 602, the reason they can be so expensive is because supply is low and demand is high. Mr. Faber ended production of the pencils at his New York City factory decades ago, and the pencils popularity has steadily grown ever since.
