Dry erase markers are insoluble, meaning they cant be dissolved in a liquid like water. They also have very few adhesive qualities, which is why they can be easily erased. The lack of adhesive is also what allows the water to make the drawing come to life and float, rather than sticking to the dish.
Vinegar: Combine equal parts vinegar and water and apply on the permanent marker stain. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before wiping it away with a clean cloth. Toothpaste: Apply a little amount of toothpaste and rub it with a damp cloth over the marker stain.
To revive water-based markers (Crayola regular, washable, or Ultra-Clean markers), try dipping the tip in warm water for about 5 seconds. After recapping the marker, we suggest waiting 24 hours before trying the marker again. Try rubbing the gel marker back and forth on the drawing surface several times.
Fill your bowl with rubbing alcohol (you can also use the cap of the alcohol bottle, as youll see in these examples) and put the Sharpie, tip down, in the liquid. Let it sit until you see a little ink running out into the alcohol. Then, cap your marker and let it sit for 15 minutes before using it again.

Isopropyl alcohol, or rubbing alcohol, can break down the chemicals in permanent inks. Try to apply the rubbing alcohol only to the marker stain and wipe along the area. Reapply and repeat as necessary until the marker is completely gone.
