As Ubuntu cloud images are uploaded and registered on the Amazon EC2 cloud, they are referred to as AMI (Amazon Machine Images). Each AMI is a machine template from which you can instantiate new servers. Each AMI has its own unique ID. In order to launch an instance on the EC2 cloud, you first need to locate its ID.

To create an AMI image, well navigate to EC2 - Instances - Select the instance you want to create an image of - right-click -Image and Templates - Create Image. Alternatively you can access this from the Actions button. On the next screen, we will create a name for our image and set our instance volumes.

AMIs and their ID are immutable, but they can be deleted.
Log in to the AWS Management Console, display the EC2 page for your region, then click Instances. Choose the instance from which you want to create a custom AMI. Click Actions and click Create Image.
