Bonding: CO2 lasers can use a marking spray (such as CerMark) to engrave metals. The spray will bond to the surface through a chemical reaction with the laser beam. The rest of the spray that is not bonded will need to be removed manually.

Removing an engraving isnt super expensive, typically its the same price as polishing, but depends on the material of the ring. Removal can usually be done in one day. Its important to note that the process of removing an engraving may not always result in a completely restored appearance.
Apply a Sealant (Optional): Once the paint or dye is dry, you can apply a clear sealant over the entire wood surface. This step is optional but recommended, as it helps protect both the wood and the colored engraving, enhancing its durability.
Operators simply apply the marking solution some common products include CerMark, Enduramark, and LaserBond allow it to dry, and then perform the engraving as normal. The heat from the laser bonds the solution to the metal, resulting in a permanent black, silver, or sparkle-type mark from a CO2 laser machine.
Recently, woodworkers have discovered that using borax as a pretreatment for laser engraving can greatly enhance the final product. By darkening the engraved areas, the contrast between the engraved and non-engraved parts of the wood is increased, resulting in a more striking and professional-looking final product.
There are a variety of methods that you can use to remove engraving, including sanding, polishing, and grinding.
Beginning with the finest sandpaper start to buff the engraved area, stopping to wash and buff dry at regular intervals and increasing the grit until the engraving is gone. If even the most coarse grit sandpaper is not removing the engraving, use a metal file.
