In Markdown applications that support task lists, checkboxes will be displayed next to the content. To create a task list, add dashes ( - ) and brackets with a space ( [ ] ) in front of task list items. To select a checkbox, add an x in between the brackets ( [x] ).
Ordered lists use numbers followed by period . or right paren ) . Use any of * , + or - to make a list. Each list must consistently use the same character. A space is required after each list character.
Note for anyone else looking for how to use checkboxes in markdown mode: You can have a list of plain clickable checkboxes if you put a * before each one, making a bulleted list. You also have to have a line of plain text before the checkbox, and do it all in one block. Pretty inconvenient, but it works.
Its important to note that the checkbox feature is not a part of the original markdown specification but is supported by many markdown renderers and editors. Checkboxes can also be used in Github and Gitlab to create task lists. In Github, you can use the syntax - [ ] or - [x] in the body of an issue or pull request.
To create a task list in Markdown, use a dash followed by a pair of square brackets, then the text for the task. If the task is done, you can place an x inside the square brackets.
You can make a bulleted list by starting each line with a - or * character followed by a space. You can make a numbered list by starting each line with a 1. followed by a space. You can make a nested section of a list by adding two spaces before the bullet or number character.
