this episode of our xml journey is about character references and the role they play in xml style escaping alright so we know that an XML file it is basically made of a sequence of characters right right so now let us consider those characters and think about which of them could perhaps cause some irritation and/or distress in case one puts them into an XML file or at least undertakes the attempt to do so okay so in our last episode we saw that whitespace can potentially be less than ideal when entered into an XML file because human readers oftentimes simply overlook its presence and also it is sometimes impossible to visually distinguish various sorts of whitespace characters from each other also if one desires to put a more exotic character into an XML file for example a character from that German or Japanese language well then this can potentially pose painfully puzzling problems because keyboard layout simply cannot manage to encompass the vast multitude of unicode characters right

1 Answer. You can use #xA; for line feed (LF) or #xD; for carriage return (CR), and an XML parser will replace it with the respective character when handing off the parsed text to an application.
Resolution Make a copy of your XML file in case you need to start over. Open the xml file in any Text editor supporting Regular Expression Find/Replace feature. Open the Find/Replace edit window. Select the Regular Expression option. Find : [^;:()a-zA-Z0-9 =./
Commenting out an entire XML block using CTRL+ / comments each line separately instead of creating a block comment. Select the entire block of xml and hit CTRL+/ to comment the entire block.
XML DOM splitText() Method The splitText() method splits the text node into two nodes at the specified offset. This function returns the node containing the text after the offset. The text before the offset remains in the original text node.
