Tomboy is a term used to describe masculine girls who also do things that are considered manly. Transmasc is about gender identity, tomboy is just about the way a girl dresses and/or acts.
FTM Female-to-Male. A term referring to men who were assigned female-at-birth. Some trans men reject this term because they have always been a man, regardless of sex assignment. This term is considered by some to be outdated and overly focused on medical transition, while others embrace it as an identity term.
A term describing a persons gender identity that does not necessarily match their assigned sex at birth. Other terms commonly used are female to male (or FTM), male to female (or MTF), assigned male at birth (or AMAB), assigned female at birth (or AFAB), genderqueer, and gender expansive.
FTM: A person who transitions from female-to-male, meaning a person who was assigned female at birth, but identifies and lives as a male. Also known as a transgender man. MTF: A person who transitions from male-to-female, meaning a person who was assigned male at birth, but identifies and lives as a female.
Transmasculine (sometimes clipped to transmasc) is a broader term for all trans individuals with predominantly masculine identities or gender expression, and includes trans men as well as non-binary people who were assigned female at birth and may have an identity that is partially masculine but not entirely male.
Transmasculine (or transmasc) is a term used for those assigned female at birth and whose gender identity or expression (or both) is masculine but not necessarily male.
