In the twentieth chapter in Rodman Philbricks novel, Freak the Mighty, Max witnesses his father trying to kill Loretta for trying to help him escape. The sense of dj vu nearly knocks Max off of his feet.
Grim opens a sweater from Gram. Then Gram gets a bracelet from Max. Max gives Freak a Swiss army knife, and we are left to imagine all the things Freak will be able to invent with it. Gram gives Gwen a scarf, and finally Max gets to open his present.
Annie Pinneman-Kane was Maxwell Kanes mother, Kenny Kanes ex-wife and the daughter of Gram and Grim. She was brutally murdered by Kenny after he strangled her, which Max witnessed because she divorcing him.
Summary: Chapter 14: Cross My Heart and Hope to Die Freak comes home from the hospital the next day, and explains to Max that hell have surgery, a biogenic intervention, in a couple of years. Max would rather Freak stay the way he is. Freak assures him that nothing ever stays the same.
In Chapter 14, Cross My Heart and Hope to Die, of the Rodman Philbrick novel, Freak the Mighty, Max learns more about Kevins secret while Grim confides in Max about another secret. After Kevin has to be taken by ambulance from school, Max is worried. Its a good thing Kevin and his doctor have a plan.
Max learns that, as a result of Kevins birth defect, his heart has literally gotten too big for his body. As a result of Kevins death, we learn that Maxs retreat into his down under doesnt allow him to go to school because Max stays in the basement for days and days.
