What is the difference between OMT and OMM?

OMM, also called Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), is a form of manipulation that: Is the generic term used to refer to many different manipulation techniques. Can be used to treat structural and functional issues in the bones, joints, tissues and muscles of the body.

What is OMT certification?

Physicians who hold an active AOA primary board certification are now eligible to earn a Designation of OMT, signifying their skills and expertise in Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment and osteopathic principles and practice (OPP).

Can a nurse practitioner perform osteopathic manipulation?

I got into medicine through Massage Therapy and have always wanted to learn OMM. She said MDs and NPs and PAs can get certified in OMM and even bill for it just like she does.

Can MDs bill for OMM?

Note CPT does not designate OMT to Dos only. MDs. Pas, NPs, can bill for OMT if it is within the scope of their practice despite objections by many Dos. DCs must use DC codes and PT/OT must use their codes, as they do not have full scope of practice privileges in most settings.

What is the difference between a nurse practitioner and an osteopathic doctor?

The main differences between MDs/DOs and NPs include the degree (NPs dont go to medical school), clinical training (NPs complete a practicum and not residency), and autonomy (NPs do not have full practice autonomy in 28 states and require physician oversight).

What can an MD do that a nurse practitioner Cannot?

For NPs who work in restricted states, they cannot prescribe, diagnose, or treat patients without physician oversight. Doctors are able to prescribe, diagnose, and treat patients in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

Can an MD perform osteopathic manipulation?

Only DOs are trained and licensed to perform OMM.
