This section will guide you through the steps to efficiently extract data from a website and save it in a CSV format. Step 1: Understand the Website Structure. Step 2: Set Up the Script. Step 3: Make HTTP Requests and Parse the HTML. Step 4: Extract and Clean the Data. Step 5: Save Data in CSV Format.
CSV files use double-quote marks to delimit field values that have spaces, so a value like Santa Claus gets saved as Santa Claus to preserve the space.
The problem is that there is no comment character standard for a CSV file, but I did hear that you can define your own comment character in the C# file that reads the CSV file. For instance skip rows that start with #.
CSV allows newlines in the quoted fields, so making your application CSV-compliant would avoid the need to preprocess CSVs. Or just replace the newlines in Calc before export? Note also that a newline after a comma is an artifact of your data, where the last record (after the comma) is empty.
In CSV files, a NULL value is typically represented by two successive delimiters (e.g. ,, ) to indicate that the field contains no data; however, you can use string values to denote NULL (e.g. null ) or any unique string.
If a value in the CSV file contains a double quote, the whole value must be wrapped in double quotes , and a double quote must be prepended to each double quote in the value. Note: Excel does this automatically when saving as CSV.
Standard CSV conventions Use a double quote before and after any value containing a space, a comma or any special character, to escape these characters.
Currently, the TSV/CSV rendering engine doesnt support comments. However, it is common to have comments in CSV files, and popular tools, such as pandas readcsv support ignoring comments.
