PCB rework is the process of making changes to or fixing flaws on a printed circuit board after it has already been produced or assembled. This may require anything from changing components to cleaning up excess solder to fixing broken traces or pads.
Your best bet is immersion in an ultrasonic cleaner with water detergent, or the kitchen sink and a stiff brush - make sure theres no corrosion debris bridging pins, or any pins eaten through. Then dry it thoroughly. You can get various spray on conformal coatings that should prevent any further corrosion.
Over time, they experience a great deal of wear and tear that can deteriorate their performance and functionality. Things such as the weather, humidity, age, and even elevation can affect the condition of a board. Luckily, its possible to repair or remanufacture boards to make them like new again.
The damaged trace should be cut away and removed using a cutting tool, being careful not to damage any surrounding traces, components and contacts.
How To Repair Circuit Boards Gather the tools and other materials that youll need. Remove the damaged pad or component. Clean the track and remove solder. Place your copper tape over the track. Solder the joints. Restore the PCB through-hole. Place and solder your component. Trim excess tape from the repaired area.
Step 1: Cleaning. Step 2: Remove the Damaged Pad. Step 3: Clean Up the Area in Around the Pad. Step 4: Remove Mask. Step 5: Clean. Step 6: Tin the Conductor. Step 7: Sise Up and Select the Right Circuit Frame. Step 8: Tin the Replacement Pad/Conductor.
Repair: An overheated joint can usually be repaired after cleaning. Careful scraping with the tip of a knife, or little isopropyl alcohol a toothbrush will remove the burnt flux. Prevention: A clean, hot soldering iron, proper preparation and cleaning of the joint will help prevent overheated joints.
If a PCB is overheated the most likely outcome is that the copper layer will de-laminate from the fibreglass board. This usually leads to broken joints and a non-working circuit. It is possible to repair some faults using adhesive copper tape and solder.
