The total number of heat and cooling cycles should be part of the decision to limit the number of rework cycles. In general, the typical number of rework attempts (multiply by two to get to the number of heat cycles) for Class-2 and Class-3 PCBs is three.
Rework in production is the process of repairing things that are defective, failed, or non-conforming during or after inspection. Disassembly, repair, replacement, reassembly, and other tasks are included in this procedure.
The basic concept of rework in soldering is to remove the faulty component by heating the solder joints between the component and the circuit board. Remove the component or part while the solder is molten. Remove residual solder by heating to melting temperature. The new component is then soldered onto the board.
HOW-TO: PCB Trace Repair With a Wire Jumper Step 1: Scrape away resist from repair areas. Step 2: Clean and tin exposed contact areas. Step 3: Choose a strip of wire to replace the conductor. STEP 4: Strip and tin each end of wire jumper. STEP 5: Solder one end of the wire. STEP 6: Form wire as needed.
Find where the trace the pad lifted from starts and ends, then run wires to every disconnected point. For the pad that lifted, stick the component through the hole and solder your wire to the component leg. Glue the pad back to the circuit board with a strong epoxy.
Rework The act of reprocessing non-complying product, through the use of original or alternate equivalent processing, in a manner that assures compliance of the product with applicable drawings or specifications. Repair Action on a nonconforming product to make it conform to requirements.
