How To Repair Circuit Boards Gather the tools and other materials that youll need. Remove the damaged pad or component. Clean the track and remove solder. Place your copper tape over the track. Solder the joints. Restore the PCB through-hole. Place and solder your component. Trim excess tape from the repaired area.
Depending on the cause of damage, repairs are possible for some PCBs, while some are not.
Two-part conductive epoxy is a great solution for making solderless electronic connections. This type of epoxy contains conductive material so, when cured, it forms a very strong and highly conductive bond similar to a solder joint.
Nevertheless, the damage can be repaired, and the board restored to its original integrity - and even appearance - by the following procedure. Some specialized tools are needed, and the liquid epoxy repair material can even be colored with color agents to replicate the color of the surrounding original board material.
Check for signs of damage on the circuit board, such as crushed components, bulges, cracked wires, misplaced or extra solder, burn marks and scratches that indicate that the board needs to either be replaced or to be repaired.
How To Fix A Broken Circuit Board Contact Step 1: Applying epoxy. Step 2: Work with the traces. Step 3: Preparing for the soldering. Step 4: Applying tinning coat. Step 5: Applying rosin core. Step 6: Applying copper wire. Step 7: Layering the copper wiring. Step 8: Checking for correctness.
HOW-TO: PCB Trace Repair With a Wire Jumper Step 1: Scrape away resist from repair areas. Step 2: Clean and tin exposed contact areas. Step 3: Choose a strip of wire to replace the conductor. STEP 4: Strip and tin each end of wire jumper. STEP 5: Solder one end of the wire. STEP 6: Form wire as needed.
Minor damage can sometimes be repaired by soldering, but major physical damage usually requires motherboard replacement. Use a magnifying glass to carefully examine the board for small cracks or broken traces.
