A WPS and PQR are required documents in the fabrication process when a weld must comply with a certain standard. In simple terms, a WPS is a set of welding instructions and the PQR is a checklist to ensure those instructions were satisfactorily met. The PQR document is created first and is needed to create the WPS.
I have a WPS with no PQR ..is this acceptable? If all of the essential variables of the WPS are in conformance with Clause 3 of the standard, it is considered pre-qualified and does not need to be supported by a PQR.
WPS is of two types- Prequalified WPS(pWPS) qualified WPS.
The PQR should include a documented review on all batches of a specific product manufactured during the review period of all applicable items specified in the Product Quality Review section of Chapter 1, Part 1 of the PIC/S Guide to GMP.
WPS means welding procedure specification. It is a document to guide the welders/welding operators to carrry out the production welding. A WPS may be revised to suit the requirements as per the code based on which the WPS was qualified. Supporting PQR shall be attached with the revised WPS.
Introduction. Embarking on a welding project requires more than just skill and work; it demands non-destructive evaluation and adherence to industry standards. One crucial aspect is the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS), a document that serves as the guiding blueprint for welding operations.
For How long is the WPS PQR certificate valid? A WPS PQR certificate is to be renewed every three year. If there is a change in any essential parameter, then the WPS PQR becomes invalid and has to be requalified.
A Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) consists of the actual values recorded during the welding of a test coupon. The PQR documentation verifies that the test coupon has met all code requirements and will be the basis for developing a WPS (or multiple WPSs).
