todayamp;#39;s 2 minutes of science is about tin toy repair in this particular case itamp;#39;s a simple uh Lumberjack sign on a log toy um I get these toys at Big discounts because theyamp;#39;re broken and I can usually repair them fairly simply this one was a little bit of a tricky one because as you can see uh the saw in the one uh person in Redamp;#39;s hand seems to go up itamp;#39;s like this joint locks at the elbow so I spent a lot of time looking at that and couldnamp;#39;t actually find anything was wrong I I did a little bit of bending to make sure that there were no notches or anything that could hold it but on closer inspection I found something unexpected which is probably why nobody else could fix it until I got it itamp;#39;s that on the fulcrum side where the saw is linked to the other there was a tight place that was causing the driving arm to lift the saw itself so it wasnamp;#39;t actually have anything to do with the elbow it was all the joint at the drivi

SMD rework usually requires reflow of all solder on the surface mount components. This process needs controlled heat to avoid damaging the target component as well as the surrounding components and the PCB. Hot air stations and board preheaters are the most commonly used tools for rework.
For vapor phase/reflow or manual soldering, a temperature of 2255 with a △T 190C is recommended. For wave soldering, the recommended solder temperature is 2605 C with a △T 150C.
Here are the four essential steps of BGA repair. First, remove the components, such as the PCB. Preheat the PCB until the solder becomes molten, and then remove the PCB with a vacuum. Next, remove the residual solder. Reball BGA. Re-solder and reattach all components.
600- 650F (316- 343C) is a good place to start for lead-based solder and 650- 700F (343- 371C) for lead-free solder. Hold the tip against both the lead and contact point/pad for a few seconds. The idea is to bring both up to a soldering temperature at the same time.
The basic concept of rework in soldering is to remove the faulty component by heating the solder joints between the component and the circuit board. Remove the component or part while the solder is molten. Remove residual solder by heating to melting temperature. The new component is then soldered onto the board.
Set your hot air station to about 300C and an airflow of 50-60%. The exact temperature and airflow will require some experimentation. You want the temperature to be higher than your reflow temperature. With faster air speed, you can heat things up more quickly, but you risk blowing away parts.
When using 63/37 solders temperatures as low as 650F have been used but with lead-free 700-800F is best. The higher temperature does compensate for the slower wetting exhibited with these lead-free alloys.
Hot air rework station is a device used for soldering and desoldering components on a printed circuit board (PCB). It uses hot air to heat the components and the PCB, allowing the user to remove and replace components without damaging the board.
