Rework is the term used for the repair of electronics which typically involves desoldering and re-soldering of surface-mounted electronic components. There can be several reasons why rework is necessary, anything from poor solder joints to misplaced components.
Heat the iron, Dip the tip in the paste and then wipe it off. Apply a little solder. The tip should be very bright silvery looking, almost a mirror. Similarly pre-tin the place the wire will go and then heat the wire again and keep heat on as you stick it tin place.
Set your hot air station to about 300C and an airflow of 50-60%. The exact temperature and airflow will require some experimentation. You want the temperature to be higher than your reflow temperature. With faster air speed, you can heat things up more quickly, but you risk blowing away parts.
The basic concept of rework in soldering is to remove the faulty component by heating the solder joints between the component and the circuit board. Remove the component or part while the solder is molten. Remove residual solder by heating to melting temperature. The new component is then soldered onto the board.
Touch-Up the identification and elimination of defects in a product. Rework The act of reprocessing non-complying product, through the use of original or alternate equivalent processing, in a manner that assures compliance of the product with applicable drawings or specifications.
To solder, heat the connection with the tip of the soldering iron for a few seconds, then apply the solder. Heat the connection, not the solder. Hold the soldering iron like a pen, near the base of the handle. Both parts that are being soldered have to be hot to form a good connection.
Keep your tips tinned regularly, from the first time you use it until the time you dispose of it. Again, this can help for not only the connection but also for the longevity of the tips and the soldering iron.
