Anterior cruciate ligament graft stretching can lead to the following conditions: chronic instability. chondral injury. meniscal tears.
Early in the recovery process, and possibly right after surgery, a doctor or physical therapist might ask you to put a little weight on the knee. The key here is a little. If you try to walk or run right out of the gate like you did before the surgery, you might mess up your ACL all over again.
One of the main aims of early rehabilitation is to gain full extension of the knee as quickly as possible post-operatively. Not gaining full extension now can have drastic implications later on in the rehab process. This is where stretching is really important.
Symptoms of ACL graft failure Patients may experience a sensation of the knee giving way or buckling, especially during physical activities or movements that stress the ACL. Persistent Pain: Graft failure can cause persistent pain in the knee, particularly during movements that involve bending or twisting of the joint.
To get an idea if you tore your ACL after surgery, you may hear a popping or cracking sound, which is usually followed by pain that is mild or severe. Swelling or tenderness is also common after an ACL injury, and there may be some redness around the knee.
During the first week after surgery, most patients are encouraged to lift their legs without assistance while lying on their backs. These are called straight leg raises. By the end of the second or third week, patients usually walk without crutches.
If they initiate a jogging program too soon, they may be damaging their cartilage because they may not have as good absorption and they also may be putting extra stress on their ACL reconstruction graft which could cause it to stretch out over time.
