watch and see how I get a super realistic wood look on these nightstands I got for ten dollars at Goodwill but first I need to fix this veneer that was pulling off and exposing the particle board I used some leftover iron on edge banding that has blue adhesive already on it then I shaved off the excess with a razor knife I scuff sanded the entire surface and then grabbed my retika liquid wood primer I made sure my brush Strokes were long and even to mimic real wood grain with the Pickled Oak color and my wood graining tool I made some more realistic wood texture donamp;#39;t worry if it looks stripy because weamp;#39;re going to go in with another coat of the Pickled Oak to even it out you can stop here and top coat it but I wanted to warm it up a little bit with this pecan gel stain it turned out so much more neutral and trendy than this old orange Oak let me know what you think these nightstands would sell for now and be sure to follow along for my next makeover

Generally, one coat of stain will darken the wood slightly, while two or more coats will produce a deeper color. Achieving the perfect level of darkness on your deck is a balancing act and it all depends on factors such as wood type, stain type, and condition.
If you discover youve over-applied several days after your project, use Penofin ProTech Cleaner to remove any excess oil. After cleaning, spots that appear lighter than the bulk of the deck can be spot treated by applying a tiny amount of stain with a lint-free rag.
In addition, you can try a second coat of stain to see if it deepens the color. Sometimes, the wet stain is exactly the color that youre looking for, but when the stain dries, it goes dull. Often, applying the clear protective finish will make the stain color-rich again.
The resulting coat will take a long time to dry, be poorly adhered, and is not a good base to put a protective finish over. As for gel stain- the manufacturers usually recommend wiping off the product to leave the thinnest coat possible, not to paint on the product, and to apply no more than two coats.
If you apply a second coat of stain to wood too soon, the stain may not adhere properly and can even peel off. Its important to wait until the first coat of stain is completely dry before applying a second coat. Otherwise, you run the risk of ruining your project.

To fix a sticky wood stain, lightly sand the affected area to remove the tackiness, then wipe clean with a damp cloth. Allow it to dry completely before applying a new coat if necessary.
If you apply a second, unnecessary coat of stain to wood that is already adequately covered, you risk creating a tacky surface that is prone to early peeling because the second coat is not penetrating the wood surface, but simply laying on top of the first coat of stain.
