Zip files use a type of compression called lossless compressionmeaning they dont lose any information during compression or decompression. This is important for image files, mostly, and audio files that need to maintain quality after being downloaded.
With a compressed ZIP file, you can store single or multiple files into one archive, making the overall file size much smaller while retaining the original data and quality.
ZIP is a common file format thats used to compress one or more files together into a single location. This reduces file size and makes it easier to transport or store. A recipient can unzip (or extract) a ZIP file after transport and use the file in the original format.
Open the Zip file. Open the Tools tab. Click the Split Size dropdown button and select the appropriate size for each of the parts of the split Zip file. If you choose Custom Size in the Split Size dropdown list, another small window will open and allow you to enter in a custom size specified in megabytes.
Compression is a data reduction method that reduces file size. Unzipping is decompression that restores a compressed (aka zipped) file to its larger form.
Use an online file sharing service and send a link to download the file to your recipient. Split the file into multiple parts to share and the recipient can reconstitute the parts into a single file. A good example of this is the RAR format, of which there are a number of great (free) solutions such as 7-Zip.
Open that folder, then select File, New, Compressed (zipped) folder. Type a name for the compressed folder and press enter. Your new compressed folder will have a zipper on its icon to indicate that any files contained in it are compressed. To compress files (or make them smaller) simply drag them into this folder.
Zipped (compressed) files take up less storage space and can be transferred to other computers more quickly than uncompressed files. In Windows, you work with zipped files and folders in the same way that you work with uncompressed files and folders.
