In the simplest scenario, rephrasing a question as a statement is as easy as removing the question words. Consider the example of Why did the chicken cross the road? All you need to do is remove the question words: why did. After that, youre left with: The chicken crossed the road.
How to paraphrase Read the original source carefully. Identify the main point(s) and key words. Cover the original text and rewrite it in your own words. Write the paraphrase in your own style. Review your paraphrase to check it accurately reflects the original text but is in your words and style.
Students need to practice restating the question, and this can be done in a variety of ways. One method is to provide students with simple questions and have them restate the question using a complete sentence. For example, if the question is What color is the sky? the student would restate it as The sky is blue.
Restating your thesis is just a short first part of your conclusion. Make sure that you are not simply repeating yourself; your restated thesis should use new and interesting language. After you have restated your thesis, you should not just summarize the key points of your argument.
You can just reword it by: Removing question words. Question words are Wh- words that you use at the beginning of the sentence to ask a question. Removing the auxiliary to do By removing the auxiliary does do at the beginning of a question, you can easily rephrase it into a sentence. Moving the helping word.
A good rephrasing of Why the hell did you make this decision? might be What prompted us to make this decision? or What was our reasoning behind this decision?
Start by reading the question, and underlining what is being asked. This portion is what should be restated in the answering sentence. Brainstorm to find synonyms to the words in the question, and form a declarative sentence out of those words.
