Define a new number format Select the text or numbered list you want to change. On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click the arrow next to Numbered List. To change the style, click the down arrow next to Number style and choose numbers, letters, or another chronological format.
Multilevel Under Click level to modify, choose the level you would like to define. Under the Number style for this level drop-down menu, choose a new number style. To format the number style, click [Font]. To define additional levels, choose another level to modify. When finished, click [OK].
Instead of searching and replacing all the figure numbers in the text, click Edit - Select All (or, Ctrl + A), which select the entire document, then, press F9. This updates all the figure number automatically.
Change the numbering in a numbered list Double-click the numbers in the list. The text wont appear selected. Right-click the number you want to change. Click Set Numbering Value. In the Set value to: box, use the arrows to change the value to the number you want.
To choose a format or to control the starting number, go to Header Footer Page Number Format Page Numbers. To change the numbering style, select a different style in Number format. To change the starting page number of the newly created section, select Start at, and then enter a number. Select OK.
Go to File Options Proofing. Select AutoCorrect Options, and then select the AutoFormat As You Type tab. Select or clear Automatic bulleted lists or Automatic numbered lists.
Go to Header Footer Field. In the Field names list, select Page, and then select OK. Go to Header Footer Page Number Format Page Numbers, select the format you want, and then select OK.
