Protect a document with a password Go to File Info Protect Document Encrypt with Password. Type a password, press OK, type it again and press OK to confirm it. Save the file to make sure the password takes effect.
Although Windows 10 doesnt have the option to protect folders and files with a password, it doesnt mean your data isnt secure. One of the reasons why you cant apply a password to a folder is that your account is already protected from unauthorized access with a password (and even encryption if you use BitLocker).
Use encryption to password protect a folder or a file Navigate to the folder or file you want to encrypt. Right-click the item, click Properties, then click Advanced. Check Encrypt contents to secure data. Windows then asks if you want to encrypt only the file or its parent folder and all the files within that as well.
Encrypting passwords can be achieved through various methods, the most popular being hashing. The process of hashing entails passing the password through a mathematical algorithm (known as a hash function), which generates a unique hash of the password with a fixed length.
1. Encrypt files and folders in Microsoft Windows Find and select the folder or file you want to encrypt. Right-click on the folder or file and select Properties. Open the General tab, and select the Advanced button. Check the box next to Encrypt contents to secure data.
Sign in to the My Account portal with your work or school account, using your existing password. Select Password from the left navigation pane or select Change password from the Password block. Type your old password, and then create and confirm your new password. Select Submit.
