First, lets look at the anatomy of a nib. Thetip is the part of the nib that touches the writing surface. The slit divides the nib intotwo halves, and each side is a tine. Just add water to the jar and the ink will become liquid again. If you are in a hurry, crush the ink into small pieces, add water and stir. Voila you have ink. If you have a few hours, add water and stir occasionally.
The best way to see if a Gelly Roll pen can be revived is to scribble in circles and/or firmly tap the tip of the pen on a pad of paper. The motion makes the tip (ball) roll and causes the gel ink to be pulled into the ball tip chamber. It might take a few tries, but may help to revive the pen.
If your gel pen still has ink but it wont come out then you can fix a dried out gel pen with this lifehack. Its super easy to revive gel pens. Just use a water dropper to add a drop or two of water to the ink. Lucky I have droppers from my perfume days.
How to revive gel pens? Remove the refill. Soak the lower half in hot water (below boiling point) for at least 15 minutes. If there is a clump of old ink on the writing tip that does not dissolve in water, it can be removed with an alcohol pad or wipe.
