Tattoos tend to peel without any ink underneath as they heal normally. In rare cases, they can have missing ink due to an artists error. Peeling tattoos with missing ink arent usually anything to worry about. Its normal for a tattoo to peel and lose a little bit of ink as your skin heals.
If your ink begins to dry out in the cap, refresh your ink with a drop or two. Looking for smoother transitions and washes? Add more drops to your cap as you dip to dilute the opacity of your pigment. Keep It Wet will NOT change the color, only dilute and thin the pigment.
Sometime between two to four weeks after getting a new tattoo when your tattoo scabs and/or peels - your new ink may appear more faded and duller than expected. Dont worry, this is completely natural.
The ink is actually in the deeper layer, so once the peeling is done you should see the original color. If youre finding excessive amounts of color coming off as your tattoo heals, its possible that the ink wasnt deep enough the first time. You may be looking at a touch-up, but those are fairly common.
You can throw almost any pigment-rich base ingredient into an old pot with vinegar and salt, boil it up for an hour or two, add a couple drops of gum arabic, and voilayou have an ink. Think of ink as any coloured water thats permanent on paper.
Picking at scabs while your tattoo heals can lead to scarring and / or infection. Dont scratch your tattoo (for the same reasons above). Dont rub your scabs dry with a towel. Instead, after a shower, you can lightly dab your skin dry, being mindful not to rub off any scabs.
Everyones body is different. But all tattoos need minimal scabbing to retain their ink. Heres our best practices to care for your tattoo scabs. If you find yourself questioning what a healthy tattoo scab is or when to speak with a medical professional about a possible infection, talk to your tattoo artist.
