Restore a default style On your computer, open a document in Google Docs. Restore original to the Google style: Click Format. Select Paragraph styles, then select Options. Finally, choose Reset styles.
Lets start with the title of the document as it will be your Heading 1. To make the title a Heading: Either click your cursor into, or select the Heading 1 Text (your title) On the home tab ribbon, in the style panel, select Heading 1.

On the Home Ribbon, in the Styles Gallery, right-click on the Heading 1 style and select Modify. In the Modify Style dialog box (see picture), in the Formatting: section, Set the font to Times New Roman (or whatever professional-looking font you choose)
Tip: You can change the font and formatting of a heading style. Just select the heading text you want to customize, modify its styles the way you want, and then on the Home tab, in the Styles group, right-click the heading style that you customized and click Update Heading to Match Selection.
Modify an existing style Select text in your document that has the style applied, such as Heading 1. Format the selected text with the new attributes that you want. On the Home tab, in the Styles group, right-click the style that you want to change, and then click Update [Style Name] to Match Selection.
How do I change the format of style Heading 1 from pale blue etc. to black, bold, font size 20 ? Right-click Heading 1 in the Styles group of the Home tab of the ribbon, then select Modify from the context menu. Specify the desired formatting. If you want to apply this to the current document only, click OK.
Type the text you want into a Word document. Select a sentence that you want to add a header to. Select Home Styles (or press Alt+H, then L), and then select the heading you want, such as the Heading 1 button.
