Making Headings There are six different heading tags: , , , , and . The most common type of heading is . To use it, you put the text you want to display inside between the opening tag ( ) and closing tag ( ). The code for a heading will look like My Heading Text .
Tip: You can change the font and formatting of a heading style. Just select the heading text you want to customize, modify its styles the way you want, and then on the Home tab, in the Styles group, right-click the heading style that you customized and click Update Heading to Match Selection.
Press Ctrl and F to open Navigation Select Headings tab Click the original Heading 1, right click Select Heading and Content Press Alt + Shift + to a lower level.
Statement headings are those that include a noun and a verb, forming a complete thought. Newspaper headlines are the model for this form: Widgets Make Your Job Easier is an example of a statement heading.
Headings should be used in descending order. For example, the first header used in the main content area should be an H2. If you wish to follow the H2 with a subheading, use an H3. If you wish to follow the H3 with a subheading, use an H4 and so on.
State the main point. Write headings that tell the user what is in the content below it. Use fewer than 70 characters. Avoid questions as headings. Dont skip heading levels. Use one level 1 heading. Make the headings relate. Avoid level 5 and deeper heading levels. Space out headings.
Headings should be properly formatted and use sentence case. In titles, headings and subheadings, use sentence case. That means you capitalise the first letter and any words that would use capitals in a normal sentence. Avoid using all capital letters.
