ing to some estimates, between 4-6% of the total project cost is rework-related, and thats only counting direct costs or reported rework.
Rework Construction Statistics It is estimated that between 4-6% of total project costs can be attributed to rework. Construction rework activities contribute directly to (up to) 300% in productivity losses. Up to 70% of all rework in construction can be traced back to engineering and design related errors.
Rework is the cost of fixing a product that does not meet the required quality standards. Manpower is the cost of the additional labor required to correct the quality issue.
Total cost (TC) in the simplest terms is all the costs incurred in producing something or engaging in an activity. In economics, total cost is made up of variable costs + fixed costs. Variable costs (VC) are costs that change based on how many goods you buy or how much of a service you use.
Rework can affect workflow, making it difficult to complete the project within the time limit set out in the contract document. Also, the additional time invested in rework can affect the productivity of workers. Lastly, delays will result in customer dissatisfaction and reduced profits for the construction company.
Direct costs: Studies have found that rework can be anywhere from 9% to 20% of a projects total cost. Extended project timelines: About 30% of the work done at construction sites is actually rework, requiring a substantial amount of time.
Cost accounting rework allocation to all jobs. If you determine that normal spoilage should be allocated to all units, the cost of rework should be charged to manufacturing overhead. Overhead can then be allocated to all products, based on the overhead allocation rate.
One way to estimate the cost of rework is to use a simple formula that multiplies the rework percentage by the total project cost. The rework percentage is the ratio of the rework hours to the total project hours. For example, if your project has 1000 hours of work and 100 hours of rework, the rework percentage is 10%.
