Reworkunits of production that do not meet the specifications required by customers but which are subsequently repaired and sold as good finished goods. Scrapresidual material that results from manufacturing a product. Scrap has low total sales value compared with the total sales value of the product.
This measure calculates the total cost of material that is added into production but is not part of a finished product as a percentage of cost of goods sold (COGS). COGS represents the cost of purchasing raw materials and manufacturing finished products.
Step-2: Calculate Non-Quality Cost Good Rate = Planning Yield x Operating Yield x Fulfillment Yield. Rework Rate = (1 Good Rate) x Solving Rate. Scrap Rate = (1 Good Rate) x (1 Solving Rate) Rework Cost = Rework Rate x Rework Cost. Scrap Cost = Scrap Rate x Scrap Cost. Non Quality Cost = Rework Cost + Scrap Cost.
What is Rework? In contrast to scrap, rework refers to finished goods that dont meet quality standards, but can be adjusted or repaired to get them to a level of quality that is acceptable for customers.
Rework costs: Rework costs are incurred when defective products or processes are identified and need to be fixed or modified to meet the quality requirements. For instance, if a product is found to have a manufacturing defect during quality control, it may need to be reworked or repaired before it can be sold.
Raw material expenses refer to the cost of the components that go into a final manufactured product. They are one of three expenses included in a manufacturers cost of goods sold (COGS). The other two are: labour expenses and amortization expenses.
Cost of quality incorporates the cost of good quality the cost of bad quality. The cost of good quality includes time, money other resources used to provide the aforementioned quality. Cost of bad quality includes repair, rework, material wastage, etc.
