What is DITA? Weamp;#39;ve talked about structured content in other videos, but the important thing to understand is that structured content is content that conforms to a predetermined standard. Content that conforms to a predetermined standard is intelligible for applications and systems. Now, DITA is a unique kind of structured content. DITA was designed specifically for optimizing the publishing of technical documentation. Weamp;#39;ll come back to that, but first, itamp;#39;s good to know *how* DITA is different. Most systems organize and manage content as documents or pages. These documents are written in a linear way. The ideas within these documents intertwine and overlap. DITA content is written AND organized differently. DITA content is written as component parts, topics, which are arranged in maps, and ideally stored in a Component Content Management System. A component content management system lets you manage, organize, and publish content at a component level instead of

Structured content is content that is organized and separated into its individual component parts. For example, a blog posts headline, byline, publishing date, snippet, and keyword tags are all separate structured content fields within a CMS (content management system.)
Structured content gives you granular control over your information, so you can Create Once, Publish Everywhere (known as the COPE model), instead of re-creating similar content for different platforms. Search engines use structured content to deliver more meaningful descriptions in search results.
Create a reusable topic Navigate to the Repository. Click the contextual menu next to the reuse folder. Choose Create Dita Topic. Populate the fields in the Create New Topic dialog. For example: Click Create. Add content to the topic as required.
Content created using DITA is in XML format, making it machine-readable. DITA content is componentized, arranged in topics and maps, and most commonly stored in a component content management system (CCMS).
The three base DITA information types are concept, task and reference. What is a topic? A topic in DITA is an independent chunk of information covering a single idea or task, authored as a unit, and stored in its own file. Topics are categorised by information type.
DITA (Darwin Information Typing Architecture) is a set of XML markup languages for authoring and publishing technical documentation. Designed to be flexible, modular, and re-usable, along the structured content model, it allows the creation and management of complex information sets, referred to as topics.
What is the Definition of Structured Content? Create working documents from templates in bulk. Assemble content into the correct order and hierarchy. Reuse content within and across documents. Apply formatting, layout, and pagination. Retrieve data from another source. Track every change throughout the content lifecycle.
A topic in DITA is the most granular entity of information. ing to the DITA specifications, a topic should be short enough to be easily readable, but long enough to make sense on its own. To cover separate content such as concepts, tasks, reference, the DITA standard specifies different information types.
