ACL reconstruction is the current standard-of-care surgical treatment for ACL tears. This procedure typically uses a graft, or a piece of tissue, that is placed in the knee to replace the torn ACL in a minimally invasive surgery that uses small incisions.
There are two ways that surgeons can reconstruct the ACL using tissue: from either the athletes own knee, which is called an autograft, or using tissue from a donor, which is called an allograft.
The BEAR Implant is the first medical advancement granted approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that enables the body to heal its own torn ACL. This new approach is a paradigm shift from ACL reconstruction and is the first innovation in ACL tear treatment in more than 30 years.
