Easily rework badge in MBP to work with documents in different formats

Last year we got our first look at Apples M1 MacBooks Air and Pro, and as the reviews came in we could feel the winds of change on the horizon. The performance gains Apple made by integrating their custom silicon with ultra-fast memory were unbelievable. We held off on assigning them a repairability score at the time, in part because the technology was so different we werent totally sure what to compare it to, or what repair expectations we should approach it with. When you turn on badges, certain app icons can display information. If you turn on badges for Mail, for example, the number of unread emails in your inbox appears above the Mail icon on your Home Screen.
In order to stop that, you need to block the softwareupdated connections using an extension like Little Snitch (which is currently on sale for 50% off). If you block those connections and then run softwareupdate --list in Terminal, the badges will disappear on both the Dock and the Software Update preference pane!
