There are three main parts of the 5-digit ZIP Codethe national area, the region or city, and the delivery area. The United States Postal Service (USPS) has segmented the country into 10 ZIP Code areas. Starting in the northeast, they are number 0-9.
ZIP Code is trademarked and essentially an invention by the USPS. They created it with a capitalized C. Why do you insist that this C is rendered in lowercase? A. You are right that the United States Postal Service writes ZIP Code with a capital Cand ZIP in all caps.
Usually what happens is a carrier or post master from the office where the package is sent will correct the zip code by looking at the address and even docHub out to that particular post office to ensure the package is delivered to the correct address.
The six-digit postal code consists of two parts: the last two digits (sector code) of the old four-digit postal code, followed by four new digits representing the delivery point within the sector.
Use commas with places, cities, and addresses: Do you live at 115 North Street, Chesapeake, VA 23321? (There is no comma before zip code; also, there is no comma after zip code UNLESS the address appears in the middle of the sentence.)
While less common, U.S. zip codes occasionally come in a nine-digit form called Zip+4.Shorten to Five Digits Insert a new column to the right of your current zip code column. Type or copy and paste =LEFT(C2,5) , replacing C2 with your cells identifier. Drag the formula down the rest of your column.
Fix numbers that should be text in Excel Click in a blank cell that is adjacent to the first number. As an example, see the image below. If E1 contains Zip and E2 to E9 have the actual zip codes, and your data stops in column G, you would click cell H2 and type =Text(E2,00000) and press Enter.
Include leading characters in postal codes For example, you can use zeros or dashes to display a postal code as follows: 0000000 98052 or ------- 98052.
