Revision is more than proofreading. It is looking back at whole ideas to make sure that everything fits the purpose of the document. It may be looking back at the type of or amount of evidence provided to support the ideas, or it may be looking back at the organization of paragraphs and their relation to one another.
Successful revision involves bringing the strongest ideas to the front of the essay, reordering the main points, and cutting irrelevant sections. It also involves making the arguments structure visible by strengthening topic sentences and transitions. Revision takes time.
Revision is more than proofreading. It is looking back at whole ideas to make sure that everything fits the purpose of the document. It may be looking back at the type of or amount of evidence provided to support the ideas, or it may be looking back at the organization of paragraphs and their relation to one another.
What does it mean to revise? Revision literally means to see again, to look at something from a fresh, critical perspective. It is an ongoing process of rethinking the paper: reconsidering your arguments, reviewing your evidence, refining your purpose, reorganizing your presentation, reviving stale prose.
The definition of a revision is the process of changing something or the result of the changes that were made. An example of a revision is a book editor removing unnecessary content from a book. An example of a revision is a book after an editor has removed content from it.
There are three steps to the revision process: revising, editing and proofreading. It is also important to remember that time management is a key factor in the complete process of researching, writing and editing your work.
Why is Revision Important in Writing? The process of revision is essential to writing well. It is the opportunity to take a step back and examine your work with a critical eye, looking for ways to improve clarity, sentence structure, and overall effectiveness.
For our purposes, rewriting would essentially mean throwing away your draft and starting again, whereas revising would mean making incremental improvements to your draft. For example, you begin to draft a business letter to a supplier because you have a complaint about recent late deliveries.
Revision is often defined as the last stage in the writing process (prewriting, writing, and revision). Sommers (1982), on the other hand, sees revision as a process of making changes throughout the writing of a draft, changes that work to make the draft congruent with a writers changing intentions.
In the rewriting, or revising, phase, you review what you have written and consider how and where your writing can be improved. Its important to remember that there is no such thing as a perfect writing process, and you can always edit and polish your thoughts later.
