Microsoft XML Notepad is an application that allows you to create and edit XML documents quickly and easily. With this tool, the structure of your XML data is displayed graphically in a tree structure.
To configure the Format options, open the Preferences dialog box (Options Preferences) and go to Editor Format. If selected, Oxygen XML Editor detects how a document is indented when it is opened.
XML files can also be edited using your computers notepad program and even with certain word processing and spreadsheet programs. However, XML editors are considered advantageous because they are able to validate your code and ensure you remain within a valid XML structure.
To access XML formatting options, choose Tools Options Text Editor XML, and then choose Formatting.
With both XML sources, you have the option of clicking the Transform Data option in the Get Transform group if you want to edit the XML data, like changing column names or removing entire columns or rows, before loading the data into Excel.
Right-click the XML file and select Open With. This will display a list of programs to open the file in. Select Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac). These are the pre-installed text editors for each operating system and should already be on the list. Any basic text editors will work.
Use the Formatting options page to specify how elements and attributes are formatted in your XML documents. To access XML formatting options, choose Tools Options Text Editor XML, and then choose Formatting.
A data type within an XML document is a type that has been assigned to an element on the instance using the dt:dt attribute, or through an XML Schema, a formal definition of an XML document. In addition, data types can be declared as elements. The XML parser uses the data type information to validate the document.
