They found that 90% of articles needing minor revision and about 50% of those needing major revision were eventually accepted. The latter clearly differs from our findings here, where 99% of manuscripts needing major revision were accepted.
Finding peer reviewers our top tips Check the references in the article. Use search tools and databases to find researchers working on similar topics. Use your editorial board. Consider previous authors and guest editors. Ask reviewers who decline for suggestions. Use predefined keywords. Use previous reviewers.
A major revision often requires more substantive changes prior to being appropriate for publication. Major revisions are almost always sent back to reviewers for a re-review to determine whether the comments have been addressed and no new comments are raised.
Reject and Resubmit (or revise and resubmit) (hereafter, RR) = your article has been rejected. Major revision = your article is in a kind of limbo state where it is neither accepted as is nor rejected but rather held unto the revisions come in.
Major revisions are almost always sent back to reviewers for a re-review to determine whether the comments have been addressed and no new comments are raised. If authors are unable to satisfactorily address the comments, further revisions may be required or the paper may be rejected.
So, what does a journals editorial decision of major revisions mean? In short, major revisions means youve got work to do on your manuscript, but youre still very much in the game. You had a great research idea to start with. Youre not far from getting it accepted and published.
Revisions Required: The submission will be accepted after minor changes have been made. Resubmit for Review: The submission needs to be re-worked, but with docHub changes, may be accepted. It will require a second round of review, however.
Major revision indicates the manuscript definitely needs some work and will require additional review, but the manuscript is in decent shape, the research is sound, etc. Revise and resubmit is just a step below reject.
