A student who fails a required course must repeat it until the student has passed. A student who fails an elective course may, at their option, repeat it only once. When a student repeats a course, the original and all subsequent grades are included in the students grade point average.
A total of 120 semester hours is required. 36 hours must be in upper-division courses. At least 60 hours, including 21 hours of upper-division coursework, must be completed in residence at the University; at least 24 of the last 30 hours must be completed in residence at the University.
Grade Points To receive credit for a course, an undergraduate must earn a grade of at least D-. Academic departments may require a higher grade for the course to be counted toward the students degree. To include a course in the Program of Work for a graduate degree, a graduate student must earn a grade of at least C.
In fact, a D is considered passing in both high school and college, as its above 60%. While a passing grade may be as low as 60%, you will want to aim higher for many reasons.
It is calculated by dividing the total number of grade quality points you earn by the total number you attempt. The result, rounded off to two decimal places, is your GPA. You are required to maintain a certain GPA at UT to avoid academic probation or dismissal.
C - this is a grade that rests right in the middle. C is anywhere between 70% and 79% D - this is still a passing grade, and its between 59% and 69% F - this is a failing grade.
