All letters can be represented by their ASCII values. If you cast the letters to an int , add 1, and then cast back to a char , the letter will increase by 1 ASCII value (the next letter). So if the input was a and you casted that to an int , you would get 97 .
You simply have to manipulate the ASCII value. For example, if you wish to convert it into an uppercase, you can subtract 32 from its ASCII value. Simultaneously, if you want to convert it into a lowercase character, you can add 32.
The easiest way to convert a single character to the integer it represents is to subtract the value of 0 . If we take 3 (ASCII code 51) and subtract 0 (ASCII code 48), well be left with the integer 3 , which is what we want.
To insert an ASCII character, press and hold down ALT while typing the character code. For example, to insert the degree () symbol, press and hold down ALT while typing 0176 on the numeric keypad.
To get the ASCII code for a digit-value less than ten [09], just add 48 or 0x30 which is the ASCII code for the digit 0. This translates the decimal value into the corresponding ASCII character: 0 becomes 0, 1 becomes 1, . . . , 9 becomes 9.
ASCII, a standard data-encoding format for electronic communication between computers. ASCII assigns standard numeric values to letters, numerals, punctuation marks, and other characters used in computers. In full: American Standard Code for Information Interchange. Special Characters (3247 / 5864 / 9196 / 123126): Special characters include all printable characters that are neither letters nor numbers. These include punctuation or technical, mathematical characters.
To insert an ASCII character, press and hold down ALT while typing the character code. For example, to insert the degree () symbol, press and hold down ALT while typing 0176 on the numeric keypad. You must use the numeric keypad to type the numbers, and not the keyboard.
