Hi everyone, Kevin here. Today we are going to look at page numbers in Microsoft Word. Were going to start with the absolute basics of how you even just get a page number onto every single page in Word. Then well look at some more advanced topics like how you start your page numbers from a specific page. To follow along, Ive included a sample document down below in the description. Lets check this out. Here I am in Microsoft Word, and I want to add page numbers to this document. To insert page numbers, up on the top tabs, lets click on the insert option. Over on the right-hand side, lets click on page number and here we see several different options. We can insert a page number at the top of the page and here we can left align it, center align it, or right align it, and if I scroll down, we see a number of different options. On the Format menu, click Document, and then click the Layout tab. Make any changes that you want, and then click Default.
Insert page numbers Select Insert Page Number, and then choose the location and style you want. If you dont want a page number to appear on the first page, select Different First Page. If you want numbering to start with 1 on the second page, go to Page Number Format Page Numbers, and set Start at to 0.
With the number still highlighted, choose Page Number from the top menu, then select Format Page Numbers. Under Page Numbering, choose Start At and then select a starting number. The last step is to go to the top of the document and click on the first page number and then hit delete.
You can add page numbers to the whole document, to specific sections of your document, or starting from a specific page. Open a Google Doc. In the top left, click Insert Page number. More options. Under Apply to, choose where you want to apply the page number change. Click Apply.
To ensure your pages begin with 1, go to the Insert tab Page Number. Select Format Page Numbers Page numbering Start at and add 1.
Word allows you to restart page numbering on any page of your document. You can do this by inserting a section break and selecting the number you want to restart the numbering with.
On the Insert tab, within the Header Footer Group, click Page Number and then navigate to Format Page Numbers. On the Format Page Numbers dialog box, select Roman numerals from the Number Format drop-down list. Word replaces the integer numbers with Roman numerals as pages i, ii and iii.
