How do I write an outline? Identify your topic or thesis statement. Decide what points you would like to discuss during your paper. Put your points in logical, numerical order so that each point connects back to your main point. Write possible transitions between paragraphs.
Creating a Reverse Outline: Start with a complete (recommended) or partial draft. Develop the outline using the topic sentences of each paragraph. If you dont have topic sentences, summarize each paragraph in one sentence, and list those. Number the list for referencing purposes.
There are three steps to the revision process: revising, editing and proofreading. It is also important to remember that time management is a key factor in the complete process of researching, writing and editing your work.
Method effectiveness will vary. Decide what you need to understand and what you need to remember. Divide the material into manageable chunks. Organise in a logical way (chronological, sequence of the module). Find techniques that work for you e.g. mind maps, hiding revealing information, having someone test you etc.
Reverse outlining follows a two-step, repeatable process: In the left-hand margin, write down the topic of each paragraph. Try to use as few words as possible. In the right-hand margin, write down how the paragraph topic advances the overall argument of the text. Again, be brief.
What is it? A reverse outline is just what it sounds like: outlining in reverse. In the early stages of the writing process (before you have a draft), it is a good idea to outline your ideas and produce a draft from that outline. Reverse outlining is producing an outline from the draft you have already written.
