In DITA, a content model is implemented as an information type, or topic type. A fundamental principle of DITA is information typing, which categorises information ing to the nature of the content. The three base DITA information types are concept, task and reference.
Content created using DITA is in XML format, making it machine-readable. DITA content is componentized, arranged in topics and maps, and most commonly stored in a component content management system (CCMS).
What is DITA? The Darwin Information Typing Architecture is an open-sourced, structured information architecture. It provides a neutral, modular content source for almost any type of content.
Information Types DITA provides three base topic types (concept, task, and reference), a number of extended topic types, and the capability to create new topic types through specialization.
Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) is an XML architecture and standard for designing, writing, managing, and publishing information. DITA specifies elements, their order of occurrence, and standard attributes on the elements. Elements are also known as tags.
The concept topic is specialized from the base topic information type. The top-level element for a DITA concept topic is the element. Every concept topic contains the standard topic elements, including title, short descriptions or abstract, prolog, a body, and related links.
A element contains information that expands on or calls attention to a particular point. This information is typically differentiated from the main text. The DITA element corresponds to the HTML element, and attribute semantics derive from their HTML definitions.
Basic concepts DITA has been designed to satisfy requirements for information typing, semantic markup, modularity, reuse, interchange, and production of different deliverable forms from a single source.
