In this lesson, we mentioned three symbols from John Steinbecks Of Mice and Men: Candys dog, which represents the fate of those who are weak; mice, which symbolize false hope; and the dream farm, which symbolizes unattainable independence and protection from the world.
Dreams in Of Mice and Men are linked to the American Dream. This is the idea that in America, it is possible for anyone to achieve success and improve their lives through hard work. This is linked to the United States Declaration of Independence which states that all men are created equal.
His intelligence and quick response might be partly from his duty to take care of Lennie. There were many scenes in which George warns Lennie not to do this and that, since he could predict what is coming of Lennies action. The theme for George are friendship, dream, freedom and sacrifice.
The three main themes in Of Mice and Men are: dreams. loneliness. companionship.
Quick answer: The main theme of chapter 2 in Of Mice and Men is the contrast between human connection and isolation. While George and Lennie share a familial bond and dream of a better future, the ranch introduces characters like Curley and Carlson who embody isolation and brutality.
Steinbeck chose the title Of Mice and Men after reading a poem called To a Mouse by Robert Burns, in which the poet regrets accidentally destroying a mouses nest. The poem resonates with several of Of Mice and Mens central themes: the impermanence of home and the harshness of life for the most vulnerable.
The reader sees four major motifs in Of Mice and Men: loneliness, the dream ranch, the river setting, and animal imagery. The motif of loneliness highlights the difficult choice George must make. The use of the recurring idea of the dream ranch highlights the theme that even the best-laid plans can sometimes go wrong.
There are several themes in Of Mice of Men, but a few of the major ones would be loneliness, friendship, and dreams. George and Lennie are the biggest representation of friendship, but this can also be seen through the relationship that is developed with Candy, George and Lennie.
