Use oil. Take cooking oil or baby oil (any oil will do) and dip the tip of your ballpoint pen in it. Let it soak for about a few minutes, swirling it around the oil. Then, use your pen to scribble vigorously on a piece of paper until the oil is gone and only ink starts to flow.
If theres still ink in the pen but the nib isnt writing, the nib itself might have dried out. Most likely, theres still more ink in the feed. But, it hasnt docHubed the tip of the nib just yet.
Shake the pen over a paper towel then try tapping the pen nib down on a piece of paper or flicking the nib to encourage ink flow. Take note that you should be tapping gently and avoid pressing down the nib.
If you are replacing one ink cartridge with another if they are the same color and brand ink you can simply pull the old cartridge off the pen and replace it with a new pen. If you are changing ink to a different color or brand you will need to flush the pen feed and nib to clean out the excess ink.
The rolling ball mechanism acts as a cap to stop the ink from drying out, but when left out, unused for long periods of time, it can clog up and stop the ink flow. The first method to resolve a clogged ballpoint pen is to apply more pressure and draw scribbles and vertical lines on a piece of paper.
One of the most common issues ballpoint pens face when it comes to ink drying out is exposure to air. When air gets inside the cartridge, it makes the ink dry up and for ballpoint ink, which is already quite thick, this will typically clog it completely.
Tips on how to get a pen to write again: Dip the tip in a drop of oil. Water can also work, but we suggest oil. Let it soak for 5-10 seconds, swirling it around in the drop of oil is best. Scribble vigorously on a piece of paper until the oil absorbs and only ink starts to flow.
