To create indexes, use the CREATE INDEX command: -- syntax create index indexname on tablename(column1, column2, .., columnN); -- create index on one column create index productscategory on products(category); -- create index on multiple columns create index productscategorybrand on products(category, brandid);
Re-indexing in a database refers to the process of rebuilding or recreating the index structures associated with database tables. Indexes are data structures that enhance the speed of data retrieval operations, such as SELECT queries, by providing a quick reference to the location of specific data within a table.
For example, to rebuild an index named indexname on a table named tablename, you can execute the following command: ALTER INDEX indexname REBUILD; 2.
Use the ALTER INDEX statement to change or rebuild an existing index. The index must be in your own schema or you must have the ALTER ANY INDEX system privilege. To execute the MONITORING USAGE clause, the index must be in your own schema.
To modify an index In Object Explorer, connect to an instance of the SQL Server Database Engine and then expand that instance. Expand Databases, expand the database in which the table belongs, and then expand Tables. Expand the table in which the index belongs and then expand Indexes.
You can use the OPTIMIZE TABLE command to reindex a table. In doing so, MySQL will reread all the records in the table and reconstruct all of its indexes. The result will be tightly packed indexes with good statistics available. Keep in mind that reindexing the table can take quite a bit of time if the table is large.
SQL Server Management Studio In Object Explorer, Expand the database that contains the table on which you want to reorganize an index. Expand the Tables folder. Expand the table on which you want to reorganize an index. Expand the Indexes folder. Right-click the index you want to reorganize and select Rebuild.
