Non-deductible business expenses are those that are not directly related to your business. This includes things like meals and entertainment, car payments, and home office deductions. While these expenses may be necessary for your business, they cannot be written off on your taxes.
Use Form 1040-X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, and follow the instructions. You should amend your return if you reported certain items incorrectly on the original return, such as filing status, dependents, total income, deductions or credits.
If you want to make changes after the original tax return has been filed, you must file an amended tax return using a special form called the 1040-X, entering the corrected information and explaining why you are changing what was reported on your original return. You dont have to redo your entire return, either.
You can report prior year deductions but you will have to complete and mail an amended tax return by filing Form 1040X. You are not able to e-file a 1040X. By filing Form 1040X are basically changing your original return to include new information.
If your clothing indeed qualifies as a business expense, you have the additional benefit of being able to deduct the costs of maintaining it. This includes dry cleaning expenses, laundry expenses, alteration costs, and repair costs.
