Sometimes it means shifting the order of your paper to help the reader follow your argument, or to change the emphasis of your points. Sometimes it means adding or deleting material for balance or emphasis. And then, sadly, sometimes revision does mean trashing your first draft and starting from scratch.
Revision typically means you are making sure your information is well organized, appropriate and complete. This is your opportunity to remove unnecessary text, rearrange paragraphs, or add sections/paragraphs. You may even find it necessary to do more research for a particular part of your paper.
Editing and proofreading your writing helps you create a finished work that represents your best efforts. Here are a few more tips to remember about your readers: Readers do not notice correct spelling, but they do notice misspellings.
What does it mean to revise? Revision literally means to see again, to look at something from a fresh, critical perspective. It is an ongoing process of rethinking the paper: reconsidering your arguments, reviewing your evidence, refining your purpose, reorganizing your presentation, reviving stale prose.
Make sure your written assignment is clearly organized, unified, and coherent. Revise for coherence. Do your paragraphs flow smoothly? Revise for consistency. Are you consistent throughout the composition in your use of words, formal or informal structures, and pronouns? Revise the language. Revise the format. Proofread.
Revision literally means to re-see or re-envision a piece of writing. This process may involve adding, rearranging, removing, and replacing (ARRR) words, sentences, and ideas. Since writing is recursive, revising may require revisiting the prewriting stage.
Choose Production Revisions and the Revisions dialogue appears: Revision Mode checkbox. Turns Revision Mode on and off. The Revision Set Table. Active revision set. Show Page Colors. Show Text and Mark. From Active Revision Set Only. Collated Script. From All Revision Sets.
It is the continuing process of reassessing your arguments, reviewing your evidence, refining your purpose, and reorganizing your presentation. Some writers often consider addressing punctuation and spelling as the revision process, but thats actually proofreading.
