Changing email format to HTML in Outlook First, there is always the option to switch the email format manually. When you reply to or forward a message, you can go to Format Text on the Outlook's ribbon and click HTML.

The truth is you cannot edit an email once it has been sent. Imagine your email as a letter put into a mailbox. Once the mail is picked up, you are unable to take back the letter.
Plain text messages As it turns out, there are a few reasons why you may be getting plain text emails: Some mobile email clients still do not support HTML emails. Various mechanisms used by websites (e.g. contact forms) tend to use the plain text format.
Go to your email notification settings for this email and make sure the box to "Send Emails in Plain Text" is not checked. Check for a plugin conflict. We've seen several plugins that force all emails to be sent as either plain text or HTML cause this issue. Please deactivate your plugins and resend the email.
Right after you send a message, you can retract it: In the bottom left, you'll see "Message sent" and the option to "Undo" or "View message". Click Undo.

There is no option in Outlook to change this default; Outlook will always reply and forward in the same format (Plain Text, Rich Text or HTML) of the original message. This is to keep the original message intact, maintain the preference or technical limitation of the original sender.
